Introduction to the Terascale

Die Schule "Introduction to the Terascale" richtet sich an Bachelor- und Masterstudent*innenen und fortgeschrittene Fellows von Netzwerk Teilchenwelt.

Es wird Vorlesungen zu den folgenden Themen geben:

• Monte-Carlo-Simulationen
• Detektoren
• Statistik
• Higgs-Physik
• Suchen nach Physik jenseits des Standardmodells
   

Praktische Tipps gibt es in Hands-on Tutorials zu Root und zur Messung eines Wirkungsquerschnitts (bitte Laptop mitbringen). Abschließend gibt es eine Führung über das DESY-Gelände. 

Die Schule wird auf Englisch stattfinden.

Anmeldeschluss ist am 1. März.

Die Teilnehmergebühren sind 80 Euro und enthalten ein Abendessen und Kaffeepausen.

Unterkunft im DESY Hostel muss selber gebucht werden (Plätze sind nicht garantiert).

Erforderliche Vorkenntnisse:

• Spezielle Relativitätstheorie, inkl.:
  • Energie und Impuls
• Elektrodynamik, speziell:
  • Potentiale und Eichungen
• Quantenmechanik, inkl:
  • Wellenfunktionen und Phasen
• Nützliche Grundlagen:
  • zeitabhängige Störungstheorie
  • Fermis Goldene Regel
  • natürliche Einheitensysteme
  • Wirkungsquerschnitte
  • 4-vector Schreibweise von Energie/Impuls
• Grundkenntnisse in C++ und Python

Zur Vorbereitung wird ca. 2 Wochen vor dem Kurs eine Einführung in das Programm Root freigeschaltet. Am Nachmittag des ersten Tages wird ein Tutorial hierzu stattfinden, bei dem insbesondere zu Root besprochen werden können.
