Travel to & from DESY
By plane
- Directly from the Hamburg airport Fuhlsbüttel you can continue with city train line S1 (direction Blankenese/Wedel) to Othmarschen station. Then go on with bus line 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt/Rissen) to the main entrance of DESY (bus stop Zum Hünengrab/DESY). The trip takes about 1 hour.
- Optional: take a taxi. This takes about 40 minutes and should cost between 30 and 40 EUR.
By train
- To Hamburg Altona station or Hamburg central station (HBF).
- Take the city train line S1 (direction Blankenese/Wedel) to Othmarschen station.
- Continue by bus line 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt/Rissen) directly to the main entrance of DESY (bus stop Zum Hünengrab/DESY). You can also board the bus from Altona station. It should take less than 30 minutes.
- Optional: taxi, travel time approx. 15-20 min.

By car
Exit the Autobahn (A7) at HH-Bahrenfeld. Arriving in Hamburg from the South: turn left onto the main road (Osdorfer Weg). Arriving in Hamburg from the North: turn right onto the main road (Osdorfer Weg). After approx. 1.5 km, turn right onto Notkestraße. The main entrance of DESY is the second road on the left. The address is: Notkestraße 85,
22607 Hamburg.
Getting Around the DESY Campus
The DESY Campus App with the location of all buildings can be accessed via
WiFi access
WLAN Science-Hotspot
DESY operates a network for visitors and guests on campus. This network is available via the unencrypted WLAN SSID 'Science-Hotspot'. Instuctions on how to connect to the WLAN can be found here.
WLAN eduroam
For guests, whose home institutes are participating in the project eduroam, we offer this wireless guest network connection. For registered user this is a quick and easy way to obtain secure access to the Internet without any further registration.
Cash
The cantine and the cafeteria do not accept credit card etc. There is an ATM in the canine building, which might charge a fee depending on your bank, so it might be wise to bring some cash.
