The 2nd EUCALL Target Network Workshop
(Satellite Meeting of the 3rd EUCALL Annual Meeting)

May 29 - 30, 2018
ELI Beamlines / Dolní Břežany / Czech Republic

This initiative aims at raising awareness on target issues, and at promoting joint efforts to enable high repetition rate experiments and establish sustainable target supply mechanisms for advanced laser facilities. A coordinated action on targets would increase the potential for scientific achievements obtainable at new user facilities and, eventually, be beneficial for the whole community.

These themes were discussed by about 90 users, target fabrication experts and representatives of user facilities in a workshop held in Dresden (August 29–31 2016). An extended summary of the workshop discussions was published on the Journal of High Power Laser Science and Engineering.

The workshop is aimed at defining a list of possible joint research activities aimed at enabling high repetition rate experiments (0.1-10 Hz) at advanced laser facilities. The expected outcome of the workshop is a white paper describing the contents, milestones and timescales of future joint research activities defined during the workshop.

The meeting will include in-depth panel discussions on actions to sustain the exisiting target supply infrastructure and on specific techincal issues hindering high repetition rate irradiation, such as

  • debris and optics damage
  • EMP effects on diagnostics
  • damage produced in neighbouring targets.
