Description

Neutrons are an essential tool for studying the structure and dynamics of matter from the mesoscale to the picoscale and from seconds to femtoseconds. The High Brilliance neutron Source (HBS) project aims to develop a High-Current Accelerator-driven Neutron Source (HiCANS) that will provide neutron fluxes to corresponding instruments comparable to current fission-based research reactors and spallation neutron sources. The full-scale HBS facility is characterized by the simultaneous operation of different neutron instruments subdivide into three target stations, each efficiently operated to deliver different neutron energies. This is realized by different proton beam timing schemes distributed to the target stations to obtain the optimal balance between wavelength bandwidth and resolution of the time-resolved neutron spectrum obtained from the thermal or cold neutron moderator, depending on the requirements of the experiment. A detailed linac and beamline design has already been completed to deliver proton beams of up to 100mA and 70MeV to the neutron production targets. The accelerator R&D work as recently published in the Technical Design Report (TDR) HBS - Accelerator will be presented.
