Workshop 2
Grant writing and European research funding for third year PhD students and postdocs
SR 4b, building 1b
Target group: Advanced PhD students and postdocs
If you are an advanced PhD student or a newly started postdoc and if you wish to continue in research in academia, you can kick-start your career by getting national or international funds for your own project or even your own postdoc position. In this way you will not need to wait for positions to become available. But you shouldn’t wait too long to learn how to write your own grant applications because you might miss deadlines or rush past the appropriate moment in your career. This workshop will give you all important information and help you accomplish the first steps:
Grant Writing is a multidisciplinary puzzle. Following questions will be answered in this interactive training course:
Grant writing: Why? What is it? How to find the right funding? How to search? What is your possible next European research funding? How to write a successful proposal?
- Writing a proposal is not writing a publication
- Writing a proposal is designing a project
- Tricks
- Information on current European research funding opportunities for young researchers will be given.
After the workshop, individual counselling sessions can be arranged with the trainer Dr. Ute Krell, who is head of DESY’s EU Office and has managed and initiated many successful research projects over the past ten years.
Trainer: Dr. Ute Krell
- Head of the EU Office at DESY since 2004
- Initiator of many EU projects
- Project manager in various EU projects if DESY is the coordinator
- Managing and writing numerous successful proposals
- Consulting hundreds of proposal
