This paper presents a comprehensive study of currently available measurements of the mass of the W boson. The study uses results from the hadron colliders Tevatron and LHC, performed by the CDF, D0, ATLAS and LHCb experiments, and includes the combined result from LEP-2. As the measurements were performed at different moments in time, different assumptions for the modelling of W-boson production and decay were employed, as well as different fits of the parton distribution functions of the proton (PDFs). The measurements are corrected to a common modelling reference and to the same PDFs, and subsequently combined accounting for PDF correlations in a quantitative way. The compatibility of the results is discussed and a set of combinations is presented.
