Morning Session (9:30 - 12:00, SR 4a/b). Career paths of scientists.
Keynote speakers:


Dr. Antje Wegner is a social scientist and junior group leader at the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW).

Dr. Oliver Dilly is a scientific assistant in the field of global change/ climate and environmental protection, social-ecological research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Prof. Dr. Daniela Domeisen has recently been appointed as assistant professor in the field of Atmospheric Predictability at ETH Zurich. Before that, she was a Junior professor in the field of Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.

Industry: Bernd Retzler, consultant, Ernst & Young (seminar room 4a, building 1b)
Bernd Retzler works as Human Ressource Business Partner at Ernst & Young GmbH Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft in Munich. He mainly consults the leadership with all HR related topics. Prior to his employment with EY he held different HR positions in the technology and ingeeneiring industry (Siemens, MAN and Bilfinger Berger) focusing on Recruiting, Talent Management and Personnel Development.

Industry: Dr. Solveig Moré, patent attorney, df-mp (seminar room 3, building 1b)
Dr. Solveig Moré is a German patent attorney and a European patent attorney. With technical expertise in the biotechnological field, a primary focus of her work is drafting patent applications and prosecuting German, European and international patent applications, as well as coordinating patent prosecution in other countries. Another aspect is the preparation of freedom to operate, patent infringement and validity opinions, as well as in carrying out opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO, or involvement in nullity and infringement actions. An important part of her work is advising inventors, scientific institutes, universities and start-up companies with regard to patent law.

Dr. Katrin Laatsch works as a freelance science journalist, author, translator and university lecturer in Hamburg since 2004. Her journalistic focus lies on egyptology, archaeology, history, literature, film, culture, geo- and astro science, as well as life science.

Science Management: Dr. Francesca Moglia, Astroparticle Physics European Consortium APPEC (seminar room 5, building 1b)
Dr. Francesca Moglia works as projectmanager at APPEC. APPEC is a consortium of 17 funding agencies, national government institutions, and institutes from 14 European countries, responsible for coordinating and funding national research efforts in astroparticle physics.

University research &industry: Prof. Dr. Daniela Domeisen, ETH Zürich (seminar room 1b, building 1)
Prof. Dr. Daniela Domeisen has recently been appointed as assistant professor in the field of Atmospheric Predictability at ETH Zurich. Before that, she was a Junior professor in the field of Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research.

Dr. Oliver Dilly is a scientific officer in the field of global  change, climate and environmental protection and social-ecological research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). He manage national and international projects related to sustainable land use, climate change and biodiversity. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

Ingo Schellhammer, with a degree in business informatics, is now the Director of Global Application Management at Beiersdorf Shared Services GmbH (BSS) Beiersdorf affiliate for Accounting and IT-Services based in Hamburg.

Dr. Zunaria Ansari is scientific administrator and project planning engineer at Single Particles, Clusters, and Biomolecules & Serial Femtosecond Crystallography (SPB/SFX) instrument of the European XFEL.

Dr. Michael Wegmann is Head of the "Asthma Exacerbation & Regulation" within the Priority Research Area Asthma and Allergy at Forschungszentrum Borstel, Leibniz-Zentrum für Medizin und Biowissenschaften.

Dr.-Ing. Steffi Beckhaus is a freelance coach, consultant and researcher. Her work is based on extensive experience as innovator, coach, professor for human-computer-interaction and virtual reality (HCI and VR), user experience, and multisensory interaction designer (UxD, ID), scientist, engineer, author, programmer, artist, trainer, advisor, systemic consultant, ideator, explorer, systemic thinker, meditator, energetic coach, and virtual reality explorer.

Industry/Energy sector: Dr. Malte Schwoon, Statkraft Markets GmbH (seminar room 4a, building 1b)
Malte Schwoon is VP Physical Market Operations at Statkraft Markets GmbH, which is part of the Norwegian state owned Statkraft Group. Statkraft is the largest generator of renewable energy in Europe mainly based on Norwegian hydro assets. In Germany, Statkraft owns and operates several gas fired power plants and run off river plants. In addition, Statkraft is an active trader of energy commodities and is a leading player for providing market access for solar and wind assets in Germany and the UK and connects several gigawatt of capacity in a virtual power plant.

Stephan Brandt finished his biology study with the Phd in 2002. After research activities at the University of Wales and the TU Darmstadt, he started working as a consultant for the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin. Since 2011 he has been the deputy director of the unit 115: “Biotechnology innovations, nanotechnology and genetic engineering”.

Science management: Dr. Thomas Garl, Schülerforschungszentrum (seminar room 1b, building 1)
Dr. Thomas Garl is the head of the Hamburg Schülerforschungszentrum which provides research requirements and professional assitance for children and students to try out research in the field of natural and technical sciences.

Prof. Dr. Thorsten Uphues is the group leader of the program of the Attosecond Research and Science Group at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science of DESY, UHH and MDSD which focuses on ultrafast processes in the XUV wavelength regime with extreme time resolution and a strong focus on surface science and nano structures.

Dr. Michael Wegman is Head of the "Asthma Exacerbation & Regulation" within the Priority Research Area Asthma and Allergy at Forschungszentrum Borstel, Leibniz-Zentrum für Medizin und Biowissenschaften.
