Our conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices.
We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination
- Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events
- Inappropriate physical contact
- Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviour.
Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks, workshops and social activities related to the conference.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.
It's everyone's responsibility to:
· Maintain a professional environment in an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect
· Abstain from all forms of harassment, abuse, intimidation, bullying and mistreatment of any kind
· This includes intimidation, sexual or crude jokes or comments, offensive images, and unwelcome physical conduct
· Keep in mind that behaviour and language deemed acceptable to one person may not be to another
· Help our community adhere to the Code of Conduct and speak up when you see possible violations
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Harassment and other Code of Conduct violations reduce the value of our conference for everyone.
As a discreet way to ask for help, you can use the code phrase "Ask for Angela". This lets our conference staff know that you need support or assistance without having to explain the situation in public. The codeword can be used throughout the conference.
When taking a personal report, our staff will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. They may involve other conference staff to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we'll ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we'll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won't be asked to confront anyone, and we won't tell anyone who you are.
For matters related to the Code of Conduct you can turn to Marta Chiarinotti (she/her) and Laura Krause (she/her), who will be your point of contact for any concerns.
You can reach us at ask_for_angela@physik.uni-kiel.de if you have specific access needs, require support, or would like to report an incident or concern before, during, or after the conference.
