Probing ultrafast magnetization thanks to ultrashort XUV and soft X-ray pulses
In this tutorial, I will briefly present why using X-rays to study ultrafast magnetization is interesting. Then I will give my understanding of the interaction between X-rays and magnetic materials, focusing on time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy (tr-XAS) and X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (tr-XMCD), as well as on time-resolved X-ray resonant magnetic scattering (tr-XRMS), which can be performed in transmission (known as time-resolved magnetic small angle -ray scattering) or in reflection. For each of these techniques, I will briefly present the associated formalism and what are the physical parameters that can be extracted from these XFEL experiments.
