EIROforum IWG Workshop on Systems Engineering
Lighthouse
European XFEL
The workshop is organized in the context of the EIROForum Instrumentation Working Group and aims to bring together colleagues from the EIROs that work on engineering large and/or complex systems at their organizations or provide the tools or processes for such endeavors.
The workshop will take place on the European XFEL campus in the Lighthouse visitor center and auditorium.
European XFEL is located in Schenefeld near Hamburg, and is well connected e.g. through the Bus 2 (Aneken stop), and suburban train S1 (Iserbrook station) combined with Bus 285 (Aneken stop).
The following hotels are near/on the Bus 2 line:
Mercure Hotel Bahrenfeld: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xMJRxUmVu2SyZfLW6
Hotel NH Altona:

Breakout Session I: Tools, Processes & Collaboration Lighthouse
Lighthouse
European XFEL
Which system engineering tools and processes are used at an organization and how do stakeholders collaborate?
Contributions to the breakout session are flexible in scope: you can show presentations, demos, or put topics up for feedback or discussion. A session responsible will be appointed to moderate each session. Each break-out group should prepare a 10-15 minute overview on what was shown and discussed for the general plenum. Emphasis should be given on commonality of approaches accross organizations, key differences, and inspirations taken from other facilities.
Convener: Sebastian Elias Egner (ESO) -
Breakout Session II: Usability & Resilience Lighthouse
Lighthouse
European XFEL
How is usability of the final system (e.g. user interfaces, situational awareness of system state) accounted for when engineering the system? What measures are taken to make it resilient to issues during operation?
Contributions to the breakout session are flexible in scope: you can show presentations, demos, or put topics up for feedback or discussion. A session responsible will be appointed to moderate each session. Each break-out group should prepare a 10-15 minute overview on what was shown and discussed for the general plenum. Emphasis should be given on commonality of approaches accross organizations, key differences, and inspirations taken from other facilities.
Convener: Gergely Papp (EMBL) -
Breakout Session III: Testing and Commissioning Lighthouse

European XFEL
How is the system tested and commissioned and how is this foreseen as part of engineering the system?
Contributions to the breakout session are flexible in scope: you can show presentations, demos, or put topics up for feedback or discussion. A session responsible will be appointed to moderate each session. Each break-out group should prepare a 10-15 minute overview on what was shown and discussed for the general plenum.
